Our journey to compassionate care

Behind every business, there is a story..

Ms. Moio, founder of Guardian Shield Companion Services, was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

She is a mother of 5, and was always a nurturer at heart. Caring for others always came natural to her even from a young age.

Rosy's pleasant and friendly personality along with a contagious smile that she carries, always make it easy for her to make special connections with people of all ages.

After having gone through her own personal experience with her late father fallling ill, she had spent so much time in hospital by his side and got to see first hand at the lack of nurses to patient ratio due to health care cuts, that it inspired her to start her own company.

A company that would be dedicated in providing companionship for those in need, along with a peace of mind for their families when they cannot be there.

Passionate about providing unparalleled support and making a difference, that is how Guardian Sheild Companion Services was born!

A personal journey, a profound realization

Ms Moio's personal story...

"My journey into wanting to provide companion services began with a deeply personal experience of my own. When my dying father fell ill, I spent alot of time in the hospital with him. I was there by his side throughout, providing day and overnight support, sometimes barely sleeping.

Helping him with mobility, ensuring his comfort and safety was always being met was of great importance to me.

It was definetly a challenging time, far from easy, but the thought of leaving him unattended was just not an option. The thought of him being there left alone, fending for himself, my heart just could not handle it.

You see, during the time I spent in hospital (although I had heard some stories from others who had their parents in care in the past) I was able to witness firsthand, the immense pressure on hospital staff with the cuts to the healthcare system which meant less nurses to patient ratio. The heartbreaking reality for many patients (which included my own father) was having to deal with longer periods without immediate assistance, even after pressing the call button".

I seen man left waiting to have someone bring them a drink of water, or to get them changed having soiled themselves. I recall another patient that was brought their food tray but needed help with feeding which again, needed to wait. Another elderly man calling out "nurse" multiple times in the middle of the night but no one heard as he was on opposite side of the hall furthest from the nursing desk.  I seen alot. I heard alot..my own father in the beginning needed help getting up to go to the washroom, button pressed yet no one came so I decided from that point, to do it all myself.

Being there for my dad brought my father so much comfort knowing that he was never alone to fend for himself. Unfortunately that was not the case for many others.

Witnessing the need, finding our purpose

It was incredibly difficult for me to see how many sick seniors "in hospital" without family present to help, struggling to get their needs met, especially at night.

Human connection is so important.

I realized the critical need for dedicated, one-on-one support people, in a time when our health care system is failing, and when families are needing to still work and pay bills and keep up with the everyday life pressures.

It was clear to me that others shouldn't have to face such challenges alone, and if I could help I would.

I remember my father saying to me one day while I was spoon feeding him his lunch ..."Ro, you should see if you could get a job like this, you would be so good at it." ❤️
